Privacy Policy
App name: PixelQR
Platforms: iOS and Android
Effective date: June 6, 2026
Last updated: June 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how PixelQR (“we”, “us”, “our”, or “the app”) handles information when you use the PixelQR QR code generator and scanner application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about what data is processed, where it is stored, and who it is shared with.
By downloading, installing, or using PixelQR, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Summary (Plain-Language Overview)
- Your QR codes and scan history stay with you. The QR codes you create and the codes you scan are stored on your device, and — on supported platforms — backed up to your own personal cloud account (Apple iCloud). We do not store the content of your QR codes on our own servers.
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We use a small set of trusted third-party services for advertising (Google AdMob), anonymous usage analytics (Firebase Analytics), and subscription/purchase management (RevenueCat).
- The app needs camera access to scan QR codes and photo/media access to save QR images and add logos to your codes.
- You can use most of the app without creating an account.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Data You Create in the App (QR Code Data)
When you use PixelQR you may generate and store:
- Created QR codes — including the type (URL, text, Wi-Fi, contact, etc.), an optional label you choose, the encoded content, creation date, visual style, frame, and folder/section.
- Scanned QR codes — the decoded content, detected content type, and the date and time of the scan.
- Organization data — sections/folders you create and items you pin or mark as favorites.
- App preferences — such as your chosen username, theme, language, and other settings.
Where this data lives:
- On your device. This data is saved locally in the app’s storage on your phone or tablet.
- In your personal cloud (iOS only). If you use PixelQR on iOS and iCloud is enabled for the app, a backup of your created codes, scan history, and sections may be saved to your own iCloud account so it can be restored if you reinstall the app. This backup lives in your private Apple iCloud space and is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud account or its contents.
Important: We do not transmit or store the content of your QR codes on our own servers. This information remains on your device and within your personal cloud account.
2.2 Camera and Media
- Camera: PixelQR uses your device camera only to scan and decode QR codes in real time. Camera images are processed on your device and are not recorded, uploaded, or stored by us.
- Photos / Media library: With your permission, PixelQR can save generated QR codes to your photo library and read images you select (for example, to scan a QR code from an existing image or to add a logo to a QR code). Selected images are processed on your device.
2.3 Advertising Data (Google AdMob)
PixelQR displays advertisements through Google AdMob to support the free version of the app. To serve ads, AdMob and its partners may collect and process certain information, which can include:
- Advertising identifiers (e.g., Android Advertising ID / Apple’s identifier for advertisers, where permitted);
- Approximate, non-precise location derived from device/network information;
- Device information such as device type, operating system, and language;
- Ad interaction data such as ad impressions and clicks.
This data is collected and controlled by Google in accordance with its own policies. To learn how Google uses this information, see:
On iOS, where required, the app will request your permission (App Tracking Transparency) before using your device’s advertising identifier for personalized advertising. You can opt out of personalized ads at any time through your device settings (see Section 6).
2.4 Usage Analytics (Firebase Analytics)
We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This collects aggregated and pseudonymous usage information, such as:
- App events — for example, when a QR code is created, scanned, or shared; when a template is selected; and feature/settings usage;
- General usage metrics — such as creation count, scan count, the QR type you use most often, and how long since the app was installed;
- Standard device and app information collected by Firebase (e.g., device model, OS version, app version, country/region).
Analytics data is used to measure feature popularity and app performance. We do not include the actual content of your QR codes in analytics events — only non-identifying metadata such as the QR type. Firebase processes this data on Google’s infrastructure under Google’s Privacy Policy and the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation.
2.5 Purchases and Subscriptions (RevenueCat)
PixelQR offers an optional premium upgrade (including subscriptions and a one-time lifetime purchase) that removes ads and unlocks additional features. Purchases are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and managed through RevenueCat, which helps us validate purchases and manage entitlements.
For purchase management, the following may be processed:
- A pseudonymous app user identifier;
- Purchase and subscription status (e.g., active, trial, expired);
- Transaction information provided by the App Store / Play Store.
We do not receive or store your full payment card details. Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. See:
2.6 Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require you to create an account with us or provide your name, email, or phone number to use the core features.
- We do not store the content of your QR codes on our servers.
- We do not knowingly collect precise GPS location.
- We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the core functionality of creating, customizing, scanning, saving, and organizing QR codes;
- Back up and restore your data to your own personal cloud account (where you enable it);
- Display advertisements in the free version of the app;
- Process and validate in-app purchases and subscriptions;
- Understand usage trends and improve the app’s features, performance, and stability;
- Maintain security and prevent fraud or abuse.
4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the app’s features you request, including purchases.
- Consent — for personalized advertising and, where required, analytics. You may withdraw consent at any time through your device settings.
- Legitimate interests — to operate, maintain, secure, and improve the app, balanced against your rights.
5. How Information Is Shared
We share information only as described in this policy:
- Service providers — Google (AdMob and Firebase), RevenueCat, and the Apple App Store / Google Play Store, who process data on our behalf or as independent controllers for the purposes described above.
- Your own cloud account — iCloud backups are stored in your personal Apple account, not shared with us.
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required to do so by law or valid legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
- Business transfers — if the app or its assets are transferred to another entity, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Your Choices and Controls
- Advertising / tracking:
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads → “Delete advertising ID” or “Opt out of Ads Personalization.”
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking, and Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising. You can also decline the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- Remove ads: Purchase the premium upgrade to remove advertisements.
- Camera and media permissions: You can grant or revoke camera and photo/media permissions at any time in your device settings. Some features will not work without them.
- Delete your QR data: You can delete individual created or scanned codes within the app. Uninstalling the app removes locally stored data. To remove an iCloud backup, delete the app’s data from your iCloud storage settings.
- Analytics: Where your platform or region supports it, you may limit analytics through device-level controls and consent prompts.
7. Data Retention
- On-device data is retained until you delete it within the app or uninstall the app.
- iCloud backups remain in your personal cloud account until you delete them or remove the app’s iCloud data.
- Advertising and analytics data is retained by Google according to its own retention policies.
- Purchase records are retained by RevenueCat and the app stores as needed to manage your entitlements and meet legal/accounting obligations.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information. Your QR data is primarily stored on your own device and within your personal cloud account, protected by your device and account security (such as your device passcode and Apple ID). No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children’s Privacy
PixelQR is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action. Advertising shown in the app is intended for general audiences.
10. International Data Transfers
The third-party services we use (such as Google and RevenueCat) may process data on servers located in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, these providers rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international transfers.
11. Your Regional Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, or to data portability. Because most of your content is stored on your own device and personal cloud account, you can directly access and delete much of it through the app and your device settings. For requests relating to data held by our service providers, or to exercise any applicable rights, contact us using the details in Section 13.
- EEA/UK (GDPR): You may have the rights described above and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or share personal information as defined by California law for cross-context behavioral advertising beyond the advertising controls described above, and you may exercise applicable rights by contacting us.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the app. Your continued use of PixelQR after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
13. Contact Us
If you have questions, requests, or concerns about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact:
We will do our best to respond to your inquiry in a reasonable timeframe.
